Richard Cordray to run for Attorney General

As a result of the resignation of Marc Dann in May, Ohio will again be electing an attorney general this November.  Democratic State Treasurer Richard Cordray will be running for the position with enthusiastic statewide support from the party.  The Republicans finally talked someone into running, D. Michael Crites, currently a managing partner of a Columbus law firm.

Media Biased FOR Obama?  Don't believe it!                                               There has been much talk recently that Obama is being treated much better by the media than McCain.  It is certainly true, that with his overseas trip (which McCain practically goaded him into) Obama received a greater quantity of coverage than McCain.  But it is fairly easy to make a case that this was a natural consequence of the newsworthiness of the trip relative to the small events McCain scheduled during the same period.  More to the point, an analysis was done by the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University of the first six weeks of the general- election campaign.  According to coverage of the study in the Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-onthemedia27-2008jul27,0,712999.story), "during the evening news the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral...and when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% were negative.  Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative."

Rand Study Say U.S. Fighting "War On Terror" Ineffectively                     A comprehensive study conducted by the conservative Rand Corporation entitled "How Terrorist Groups End" (http://www.rand.org/news/press/2008/07/29/) concludes that current U.S. strategy in the "war on terrorism" is a failure.  The study analyzed 648 terrorist groups that existed between 1968 and 2006, and found that 43% of the groups ended by transitioning to the political process, while 40% ended through police and intelligence services either apprehending or killing the key leaders.  Military force was successful just 7% of the time.  Terrorist groups achieved victory in 10% of the cases studied.  Once again, Obama is shown to be right on an issue; McCain has criticized Obama for having a "law enforcement approach" to counterterrorism, which is exactly what the Rand study recommends we use.

John McCain-- Confused or Lying?                                                            Republican Presidential nominee John McCain has begun repeatedly saying that Iran is helping al-Qaida train in Iran to fight Americans in Iraq.  As a presidential candidate running on foreign policy experience,  he should know Iran is a predominantly Shiite Muslim country, and would never cooperate with the Sunni extremist group al-Qaida.  So he is either confused, or engaging in a very familiar Bush administration tactic of attempting to link a country to al-Qaida in order to justify attacking it.  Four more years, anyone?
